The BBC World service is planning to launch typical broadcast of news programmes to the country of North Korea where the service could reach a potential 500 million people by 2022. The plans were funded by the additional government funding of £289 million in 2015. The BBC's objective is to bring news to countries where the general public is led by propaganda.
Diplomats have argued that the BBC will struggle to make their news mainstream due to the strict regulations and control of news by North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un. Institutions such as Voice of America and Radio Free Asia have already targeted North Korea but are yet to reach their desired demographic numbers.
The service is said to target younger individuals on purpose as they are more likely to be consuming this content as their beliefs are supposedly more open (Especially those in education will have a new source of information).
I personally think this is a good idea since the leadership in certain countries has led to public manipulation where people who want access worldwide news are limited with both physical and digital content being banned by censorship.
