The
article discusses the impact of streaming services such Spotify to enable
artists to generate revenue from this. Many artists complain about the amount
of times their music has to be listened before they generate a small stream of
revenue. Artists further go against Spotify's free streaming service and some
even take action by removing their music playlists.
The
company's net-worth known since 2015 is $8.4 billion making is more valuable
than the whole music industry which backs up the point of the artists not being
paid enough revenue.
In
contrast to other free streaming platforms such as YouTube, Spotify encourages
users to pay a monthly subscription for the content unlike the free platforms
which generate revenue purely through advertisers so it could be said that
potential audiences are limited to an extensive amount of content.
How has digital media changed your life in the last 5 years (for positive or negative)?
Digital
media has changed the way in which I am able to research information for
educational purposes and has enabled me to access a range of resources from the
world wide web. However I believe that digital media such as social networking
has been a negative to my life since many people would rather spend time at
home on their computers and phones rather than actually going out and doing
things.
