NDM #9: Pinewood - Britain's famous film studio wants to step up competition with Hollywood

Pinewood Studios which is located just outside of West London which was is the heart of blockbuster British films such as James Bond and Star Wars could be for sale to increase its maximum company value.
Pinewood is responsible for producing more than 2,000 films and 800 TV shows over the last 80 years. It's highest grossing film was released in 2015: Star Wars: The Force Awakens which grossed a total of 2.066 billion.

With Pinewood being the central location for British productions, the company was funded £30 million for expansion of the facilities by its shareholders but failed to attract more new investors which meant that the company is making slow progress in contrast to its competitors in Hollywood which are receiving massive funding each year due to the billion-worth industry in the USA. Pinewood keeps receiving strong demand for its facilities but is slow in terms on growth progress.

  • Operating profits at the company almost trebled from £2.5m to £7m.
  • 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' grossed a total of $2.066 billion.
  • 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' grossed a total of $1.341 billion.
  • The James Bond franchise as a whole grossed a total of $1.581 billion (source).

I think that what Pinewood is saying is correct however the future of film is moving towards digital media such streaming platforms which allows audiences to watch films from their homes therefore that's where investors are currently putting in their money and it will take the British institution company a long time to catch up with US institutions.
